The ship is exhibiting significant structural deformations under normal working and static loads. These deformations are most easily seen in the keel, which is bent upwards in the middle. This ‘hogging’ of the vessel is not unusual in vessels of this age and type and is a result of the hydrostatic forces acting on a weakened structure. Due to the complexity of the structure, the determination of a practical and effective solution to this problem is not a simple task. To overcome this a computer based FEA has been used.
